Anecdotes of a Relief Teacher #2

It's been 2 weeks since i started teaching in jurong west primary. It's been about a week since i last posted about my experience.

3F, that bunch of demons. I ACTUALLY LOVE TO TEACH THEM!! Despite constantly trying to make my life difficult, they are just the most adorable bunch of kids around. There are the monitresses who are so effective in their work. When i want work collected they zoom to my table and start organising everything and pinpointing all the criminals who have yet to hand up their work. They're like robots! They do their job with a passion, not wayang. If these girks were in army.. CONFIRM OCS.

The monitors, unfortunately, are timid and relatively soft with a knack for telling me secrets about their friends' misbehaviour. One of them even tried lying to me when i caught him red-handed eating sweets.. LOL. made him stay back during recess and tore him down till he completely regretted his folly.

Too bad, the monitresses and monitors have changed and the new group isn't looking too good.

Then there's the group of boys, who constantly irritate my hair off, disrupting the class at every opportunity they can get. mun hong, j'sen, jerome, anyon, wilson, prem, please improve ur attitude :(

on friday had a good english lesson with them, giving them a quiz on a worksheet i created myself. after their recess, i sat in their maths lesson to see how mrs alex handles the class. She completely owns them. they are like dear angels in her maths lessons, i'm so envious :( she is so established with her discipline with them. Right after their maths was their pe lesson with me, and the moment she left the classroom, they put on their devil tails and took their tridents and started running around like animals.

I was infuriated

I made them go in and out of class and scolded them for a good 15 min, and when we were finally downstairs at the court, they started running wild again. and then i started ripping into them in the middle of the whole school. Totally pissed off and gave them a piece of my mind. In the end, the bell rang and we didn't have PE at all.. sigh. apparently, when i asked them "do you want me to be as fierce as mrs alex?" they were shaking their head in desperation. which must mean she is really fierce, and that i'm not as fierce. Perhaps it would require me to take out one naughty kid and really tear him down in front of the entire class, before they start to take me really seriously. Will do it this week.

Despite the unhappy incident, they didn't fail to warm my heart just before school ended. Just before flag lowering, when i handed out consent forms for remedial lessons to 3 pre-selected students who didn't do well their in english exam last year, it prompted a few of them to ask:

3F: "Mr Tan!! what is that paper for!"
Glen: "Remedial lessons, you all want? Don't want then keep quiet ok?"
1st Random student: "Remedial?! I WANT!!!!!!!!"
2nd Random student: "Mr Tan i also want!! Can i go for remedial also!?!"
3rd Random student: " Not fair!! She already got science and maths remedial!! now she got english remedial also but i don't have!!"
4th Random student: "I only have maths remedial!! i also want english remedial!!"
5th Random student: "Mr Tan so can i go please???"
Glen: *in utter disbelief* "erm ok i will see how"

Wow these kids are either brainwashed beyond measure, or they really have a passion for learning, or they love their english teacher. Hope it's the last two!

Finally, I love my job. I look forward to going to teach everyday and I can't wait for monday. sadly it's only a temporary job :(
